“Teaching Excellence, Inspiring Greatness,” is the philosophy at The Premier Academy located in the Maumee Sports Mall at 1630 Market Place Drive in Maumee, Ohio.
This long time Ohio Valley region volleyball program is huge and offers an extensive array of summer camps, tournaments, high performance selections and clinics to both the junior and adult volleyball player.
Premier Volleyball Club
Since 1996, 200 PVC volleyball players have signed college letters of intent committing themselves to represent a college or university on the volleyball court in exchange for paid education.
For 2010, there are two sophomores from this club that were named to the prepvolleyball.com Sophomores To Watch List. With criteria based on high school achievements, outside hitter Kelsey Reiner and middle blocker Chelsea Watson were two out of 428 named as one of the nation’s best sophomores.
This is a huge club which offers different levels of team classications for players to try out for. In 2010 there are three 18s, two 17s, three 16s, three 15s, four 14s, two 13s, one 12a, four high school league teams, five junior high school league teams, and five youth league teams.
According to Richkern.com Premier is second in the nation for junior volleyball recruiting. So far, there are currently seventeen (17) 2010 graduates that are committed to playing to colleges this year.
Volleyball Camps
Premier hosts six different categories of volleyball camps in which 1000 volleyball players have participated in annually.
Specialty training camps for kindergarten to 6th grade include a Munchkin Camp (k -2), a Junior Premier Camp (3rd and 4th grade), Middle School All-Skills Camp, attacking Camp (7th to 12th), Passing/ Movement Camp (6th -7th ), Serving Camp (5th – 7th), Defense (6th -7th) and Setters (6th to 12th).
Specialty traing camps for junior high players include a Serving Camp (8th – 12th and 5th – 7th), a Blocking Camp (8rd and 12th grade), attacking Camp (7th to 12th), Passing/ Movement Camp (6th -7th ), Serving Camp (5th – 7th), Defense (6th -7th and 8th – 9th) and Setters (6th to 7th and 8th to 9th).
High School specialty training camps include a setters training camp and setters academy, camps for defense, serving, blocking, attacking, Passing/ Movement Camp, Advanced Techniques, and a Premier Elite camp.
A college player camp, and of the most popular offerings is the Premier Academy Site Camp Program designed for Michigan, Ohio and Indiana Summer High School and Junior High School Site programs where Academy coaches come to the schools to conduct camps onsite.
Clubs, Classes and Clinics
This club offers strength training classes-more specifically called Sports Enhancement Training from Plyocity which is described as “designed to enhance sports performance focusing on explosive strength power, total functional strength, speed, agility, flexibility, and proper movement mechanics. Classes are kept to a 1;4 ratio and volleyball training equipment includes the Vertimax, stability balls, free weights, medicine balls, treadmill, and stationary bike.
Premier also offers team building clinics, private lessons, skills tapes and this year two teams will have the chance to play in two European countries-Belgium and Paris. The players chronicle their trip on a team blog, which is a great learning and sharing experience and a way to give the younger players something to aspire to do.
